Sedona Main
Street Program nominates Sedona Trolley for Best Small Scale Project.
Sedona Trolley moved into its current located in the center of Uptown
Sedona in the fall of 2006.
The 232 sq ft space had cubicle walls, drab beige paint and sterile
lighting which created an “office look” that suited its former use until
the renovations began.
The Sedona Trolley Depot was dramatically changed into a bright, cheery,
inviting space that mimics the interior of the actual Trolleys themselves.
Now, your trolley experience begins the moment you enter the depot to
purchase your ticket.
The interior walls are painted in very bright enamel paint matching the
color scheme of the trolleys: the top half of the walls are bright green
and the bottom half bright red. The paint scheme continues to the interior
of the front doors. The doors are kept opened for the day’s business and
act as additional signage drawing attention to the Trolley Depot. Solid
oak moldings run the length of the interior walls at the intersection of
the two colors, set off with brightly polished brass. hand rails, again
mimicking the trolley motif.
A new “solid” oak ceiling with four brass ceiling fans along with
oversized metal halide lighting were added. The lighting is always on and
with the spinning fan blades, the resultant shadows add visual appeal the
to interior. A collection of antique trolleys from around the world are
handsomely displayed behind the front desk, with additional collection
pieces set throughout the depot.
Additional interior accoutrements include actual antique trolley doors
which act as room divider between the front ticket and back group sales
offices. Large professionally framed photographs of our trolleys at their
tour destinations adorn the walls along with various framed photographs
and newspaper articles of salient points in our company history. Miniature
sterling silver Sedona Trolley charms (locally made) are available for
purchase, enabling our customers to take a bit of Sedona Trolley home
with them.
The overall cost of the project was approximately $7500. The return on
investment is immeasurable, as the transformation is absolutely stunning
and a frequent topic of our visitor comments, completed at a minimal cost.
Sedona Trolley Depot went from drab to spectacular in one day and is the
reason we nominate Sedona Trolley for
Arizona’s
Main Street 2008 Award for Best Small Scale Project.
